Systems - GridPoint Intelligence - Lighting Guide

This article will provide an overview of GridPoint Intelligence lighting for both indoor and outdoor lighting.

Locating Lighting in GridPoint Intelligence

GridPoint Intelligence lighting, like other assets, is connected to each site. Bulk actions can be applied  to lighting across multiple sites.

  • Open GridPoint Intelligence
  • Select your user and tenant at the top of the page from the dropdown menus.

Viewing Site-Specific Lighting

  • Click the Sites button on the sidebar.
  • Select the site you want to view by clicking on it from the list of sites.

  • On the site page, click the Assets button.

  • You can either navigate through all your assets and find lighting, or use the Filter Assets dropdown to view only lighting.

Accessing Bulk Actions for Lighting Across Multiple Assets

  • Click the Assets button on the sidebar.
  • Use the Filter Assets dropdown to show lighting assets.

  • Each site entry line will show how many lighting assets are currently installed at that site.
  • Clicking the right-facing arrow will show the assets at that site. If you have the filter set to only show lighting assets, those will be the only ones visible.

  • In future steps, this guide will show how to apply bulk actions across multiple lighting assets - either in one site or across multiple.

  • This view is accessed by the steps from Site-Specific Lighting as outlined above.

Lighting Name and Status

  • The righthand side shows the lighting asset name and current status.
    • Offline/Online: This shows if the system is actively set up. Offline means the system setup is either incomplete or not communicating. 
    • Off/On: This shows if the system is actively on or off. This can either be from running off the lighting schedule or from manual override.
    • Override: This shows if the system schedule has been overridden either On or Off. This icon will only appear when an override is in place. Otherwise, it is hidden from view.
      • Overrides can be done manually or from signals provided by lighting sensors.
        • Sensor override example: on a very overcast day a lighting sensor may indicate the need for outdoor lighting to turn on. This will override the system on as normally the outdoor lights stay off during the day.
      • Overrides will stay in place until the following:
        • A manual override is undone by a schedule change.
          • If you manually override a light on/off, then switch it back, the override indicator will still show. This is because the system itself did not change the lighting status.
        • A sensor indicates a change in status is needed.
          • This will still show the override indicator. The system will revert back to standard when the regular schedule takes back over.
        • System lighting schedule kicks back in.
          • When the regular schedule for lighting kicks back in, the override status will be removed.

Lighting Asset Overview

  • The left-hand side shows lighting asset overview information and provides access to additional views, buttons and access.
  • Control: Shows the current control schedule being used.
  • IOM: Shows the IOM device name to which the lighting asset is connected.
  • Outputs: Shows the output terminal on the connected IOM device used by the lighting asset.
  • Photosensor: Shows if a photosensor override is currently active/inactive.
  • Last Online: If offline, shows last time the asset was online. This does not appear if the system is online.

Control Buttons and Settings

Information, On/Off, Settings, Connectivity
Information Page
  • Information Page: The “i” icon provides additional information for the lighting asset.
    • Zone Name: This can be edited here using the blue pencil icon.
    • IOM: Shows the IOM device name to which the lighting asset is connected. Same information as the overview.
    • IOM Outputs: Shows the output terminal on the connected IOM device used by the lighting asset. Same information as the overview.
  • Turn On/Off Lighting: The lightbulb/crescent moon icon changes depending on state. Click the lightbulb icon to turn the lights on. Click the crescent moon icon to turn the lights off. These actions will constitute an override and will remain in place until the next scheduled state change.
Settings Page
  • Settings Page: The gear icon opens up the settings page.
    • Lighting Control: This dropdown allows you to select from different control options.
      • Automatic: Sunrise/Sunset: Based off local sunrise/sunset information. This setting uses a weather API to determine sunrise and sunset times daily. Lights will automatically turn off 30 minutes after sunrise and turn on 40 minutes before sunset.
      • Photosensor: Lighting will be based only off photosensor inputs.
      • Schedule: Lighting will be based only on preset schedule.
    • Enable Photosensor Override: This checkbox can be turned on or off to allow for sensor override. This option will be available if you select Automatic: Sunrise/Sunset or Schedule lighting control options. This will default the lights to either of those control strategies but allow for additional photosensor control based off prevailing lighting conditions. 
    • Schedule: Determined by lighting control scheme. For Automatic: Sunrise/Sunset and Photosensor control, the schedule cannot be updated manually. Schedule control works off existing schedules created for sites. For information on how to create, update and change schedules, view this article.

  • Moving the sliders left or right allows you to manually change the on/off times for a lighting asset. The gray lines represent off times. The yellow lines represent on times.
  • The Schedule dropdown allows for selecting from the preset schedules you have created.
  • Add Schedule Exception: Allows for specific exceptions to be made for the lighting asset schedule. This is generally used to account for holiday/special hours or overnight work.
    • Click Create New Exception for this Asset to add an exception. This will apply ONLY to this asset. Each asset you need an exception for will need to be edited separately or apply exceptions to multiple assets using Bulk Actions as outlined later in this document.
      • Provide a name for the exception.
      • Select the date or dates for the override.
      • Click the blue clock icon to add On hours.
        • Multiple on hours can be added to account for schedule time that runs from midnight one day into the early AM the next day.
        • In the example below, we have set holiday hours for December 25th and 26th. 
          • If the store's normal lighting hours are 8am-11pm, this schedule shows an early opening at 4am on 12/25 to prepare. The store stays occupied until 1am the next day, 12/26. Then the store closes until it is reoccupied at 8am on 12/26 and becomes unoccupied at the regularly scheduled 11pm time. The schedule exception for the 26th requires 2 distinct On periods with an off period in between.

  • Connectivity Page: Shows connectivity information for the asset.
    • Lifetime Connectivity: Shows a percentage of uptime for the asset since installation.
    • Current Month Connectivity: Shows a percentage of uptime for the asset for the current month.
    • Connectivity Graph: Date dropdowns can be changed to look at a month period. Daily connectivity is shown using the green line. The line will peak down to the offline portion of the graph when the asset has gone offline during a day. 
      • Note: Offline does not mean the asset was offline the entire day. If an asset goes offline for a period of time during that day, it will show on the graph.
    • Connectivity Details: Shows IOM and IOM Outputs details for the asset.

Assets and Bulk Actions View

Bulk actions can be applied across multiple assets either within one site, or across multiple sites.

  • Select every lighting asset at a site by clicking the checkbox next to the site.
  • Select multiple assets across sites by clicking the checkbox next to each site or asset.

Types of Bulk Actions for Lighting Assets

There are two types of bulk actions that can be made across lighting assets:

  1. Apply Lighting Control Setting
  2. Add Exception

  • Once you have located the assets you want to make bulk actions to (reference the steps in ‘Accessing Bulk Actions for Lighting Across Multiple Assets’ above), click the Apply Bulk Action button.

  • Click the Apply Lighting Control Setting option in Apply Bulk Action.
  • Click the Lighting Control dropdown and select the lighting control scheme you want to apply to these lighting assets.
    • Reference the Lighting Control information above in ‘Control Buttons and Settings’.
  • Click Save.

Important: If you do not have photosensors set up for certain lighting assets, applying the bulk setting Photosensor can cause issues. It is recommended that you double-check your lighting assets before applying this bulk action.

Add Exception

  • Click the Add Exception option in Apply Bulk Action.

Note: You must first set up a lighting exception on a single asset and save it to have as a preset to apply across multiple assets later. Reference Add Schedule Exception section above for steps to set up a schedule exception.

 
  • Select the preset exception you wish to apply across multiple assets.
  • Click Save.
  • To clear all exceptions across multiple assets, click the Clear All Exceptions option from the dropdown. This will clear every exception applied to the selected assets.
